Mirror Mirror On The Wall, Who Are Our Favorite Designers Of Them All?

By October 31, 2017January 16th, 2023No Comments

Environmental designers affect the way we navigate, live and enjoy everything from work to play.

There are many prominent designers in the world, but only a handful stand out in the practice of environmental design. As creators, we admire and spot good design when we see it. Whether it’s strategic signage or the craftsmanship of a cathedral, we can see how effective certain shapes and structures are.

After gathering the opinions of our team members, we put together a small list of our favorite environmental designers. They are the trailblazers, the risk-takers, and the ones whose creations and processes influence and inspire us daily.

Joyce Wang | @joycewangstudio

Blessed with an unyielding eye for detail and a latent feel for texture, Joyce Wang is certainly one to follow. Joyce Wang Studio, based in London and Hong Kong, is an award-winning firm with a reputation for luxury interiors. She is motivated by people who are passionate about what they do; people who have the courage to change; and people who say no. Wang’s latest creation is Rhoda, Hong Kong. The restaurant features burnt walls, a chandelier made from smoked washing machine drums and a barbershop-themed den.

Celerie Kemble | @celerie

With her impeccable sense of style and zealous approach to decorating, Celerie Kemble has crystallized her stance as a modern-day design lumineer. Kemble’s signature nonchalant elegance stems from her Palm Beach roots where her mother, Mimi Maddock McMakin founded Kemble Interiors, Inc. in 1982. Known for her honesty, humor and approachability, Celerie, now based out of New York City, has participated in campaigns for J. Crew, Benjamin Moore, Johnson & Johnson, and Mattel for Barbie.

Kelly Wearstler| @kellywearstler

Kelly Wearstler has singularly revolutionized the look, feel and meaning of modern American environmental design. Her bedazzling, high-chroma signature style combines raw with refined, melds color with spirited spontaneity, and seamlessly blends diverse pieces in one given space. Wearstler’s vibrant interiors permeate luxury hotels and grand residences from Beverly Hills to the Caribbean and around the world.

While the list could go on and on, we decided to highlight three of our favorites. We encourage you to check out their sites and Instagram feeds — the decadent aesthetics sure make it worthwhile!
