Nationally renowned architecture firm, PLACE Architecture, undergoes a playful rebrand.
We shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us. -Winston Churchill
At its core, architecture is designing spaces that create community. Solid communities make a real difference in people’s lives and according to The Guardian, “our surroundings can make us healthier and less likely to drop litter, enhance our beauty, decrease our perception of pain and enable us to solve puzzles more quickly.”
Long-standing client, friend, and nationally renowned architect, Tim Clemmons, knows the true meaning of architecture in relation to community. Tim is the Executive Director and one of three principals of St. Petersburg-based architecture firm, PLACE Architecture. Studio directors Jenny Miers and Greg Glenn are also principals. The firm’s diverse portfolio includes residential, commercial and industrial developments, focusing on multi-family and mixed-use urban infill projects across Florida’s western coast. Noteworthy projects include the Bliss tower, The Salvador, and the Morean Arts Center.
PLACE Architecture’s recently completed and widely recognized project, Armature Works, is a 40-acre mixed-use redevelopment space located along the Tampa Bay Riverwalk. It includes a 73,000 square-foot, two-story, historic landmark building which features a slew of restaurants, event spaces, pop-up shops and more. Armature Works was recently awarded the 2019 AIA Florida/Caribbean Merit Award of Excellence for Historic Preservation & Restoration Florida.

Paving a Vibrant New Path
In 2018, Tim Clemmons approached Clear ph with a distinct idea for a rebrand of his firm, Mesh Architecture, under the new name, PLACE Architecture. We were humbled and thrilled to be tasked with visually representing one of the top architecture firms in the region. The goal of the rebrand was to create a sense of place which resonates with St. Petersburg’s buzzing community, while introducing a playful yet contemporary aesthetic. With a vision queued up, our creatives got to work.
Three words to describe PLACE Architecture’s rebrand: inventive, timeless, and bold.
PLACE’s interest in art and design played an important role in their rebrand process. They wanted to go bold. Through typography, layout placement and color, we were able to capture just that. As a result, PLACE’s brand aesthetic is modern and minimalistic, utilizing primarily black and white with pops of color.
“It’s fascinating to collaborate with fellow creatives on branding and identity development. Our clients, being a team of architects, had a keen sense of aesthetics, and always provided great feedback. Their bold approach was refreshing and inspiring, since it is not something you see everyday in the architecture industry,” said Clear ph Art Director Kimberly Ortega León.
Putting PLACE On the Map
With fresh branding in tow, PLACE Architecture was ready to enter into the digital space. Creating a unique and comprehensive website was crucial to distinguishing the company as a new entity, and we used geography to our advantage by putting PLACE on the map. We dedicated a full page to highlighting each of PLACE’s projects on a stylized map of the Tampa Bay area. The pins are interactive, allowing users to click to learn more about individual developments.
Designed to Inspire
PLACE Architecture’s rebrand and new website is motivating its team members to grow in new ways. The vibrant and purposeful site has influenced the company to further develop their creative processes when documenting new developments.
Once the inspired, our designers and creatives are now the ones inspiring.
